Abstract

This editorial serves as an introduction to the special issue and the context of the discussion it contains. In it, we—the editors of the Journal of Media Linguistics, who are also the editors of this special issue—outline the discussion we have initiated within the community to take stock of and reflect on the state of the field in light of current developments. The editorial forms the first part of a two-part sequence. Once all the contributions in the special issue have been published, we will look back on the issue, sort the thematic threads and draw a conclusion.
