Open Peer Review
-> open peer review on dp.jfml.org
The Journal for Media Linguistics uses an open peer review procedure for scientific quality control. The aim is to improve the quality of submissions and reviews and to make review procedures more transparent and comprehensible. Please support this process actively in accordance with the principles of an independent, open, and interactive scientific culture and take part in the discussions.
The submissions are presented as discussion papers. Discussion papers and the reviews can be commented at dp.jfml.org. The open peer review is not anonymous: The names of the authors are displayed and we also ask the reviewers to state their names. In addition to the quality control by the reviewers, the process also allows the wider scientific community to participate constructively in the open-peer review by commenting the discussion papers. Authors are encouraged to respond to all comments and to factor in comments in the revision of the article. After completion of the open peer review process, discussion papers and expert opinions remain permanently available.
The open peer review process
-
Manuscript submission (MS) by author
- The editors decide, whether
1. the submission is to be located within the thematic scope of the jfml,
2. the submission meets scientific requirements,
3. the submission corresponds to good scientific practice, and
4. meets the formal requirements.
In cases of doubt, the editors call in a member of the editorial board for the initial review (E).
- The editors acquire two reviewers. If neccessary, the editors consult the editorial board to acquire reviewers.
- The submission will be published as a discussion paper (DP). Within eight weeks, the reviewers, and the scientific community have time to review (R) or comment (C) on the submission.
- The editors make a decision on acceptance, revision, or rejection of the submission within one week on the basis of the expert opinions and comments.
- The author usually has a total of six weeks (for revisions) to reply to comments and to revise the submission on the basis of the review. The response time is two weeks and, in the case of requested revisions, four weeks for revision.
- The revisions will be reviewed within three weeks by one of the two appointed reviewers and, on the basis of the review, the submission will be finally accepted or rejected.
- The submission is made ready for publication (typesetting, proofreading) by the editorial staff within two weeks and the proof ((P)) is handed over to the author.
- After approval for publication by the author, the submission will be published by the editors as an article (A).
