Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • You agree to have your submission reviewed in an open peer review. After detailed evaluation by the editors, the submission will be published as a discussion paper at dp.jfml.org and will be publicly commentable and permanently available. The reviews are also published.
  • The text follows the stylistic and bibliographic guidelines in Author Guidelines.
  • The article has not yet been published and has not been submitted to any other journal (otherwise a statement in "comments for the editor" is attached).
  • You agree to write a blogstract and an abstract in addition to the article. Please upload the blogstract as an additional file when uploading the submission and enter the abstract under "Abstract" (step 3).
  • You conclude an author's agreement with the Journal for Media Linguistics in which you assure, among other things, that you have the necessary rights of use, do not infringe the rights of third parties, in particular image rights, and transfer simple rights of use for publication, licensing, and long-term archiving to the jfml.
  • You agree that the article will be published under a CC BY-SA License (4.0).
  • You follow the recommendations of good scientific practice.

Author Guidelines

The jfml only publishes previously unpublished, original research. The journal accepts submissions for the categories article, review, and conference report. Articles undergo an open peer review process. To submit your entry, please click "Make a new submission" and create a user account or log in to your existing account.

Articles should not exceed 65,000 characters including blanks and bibliographical references (excl. empirical data), the corresponding blogstracts should contain 3,000 - 4,000 characters, the abstracts 1,000 characters. Book reviews comprise a maximum of 10,000 characters and conference reports a maximum of 15,000 characters including blanks and bibliographical references.

Please use the template file and use the Word templates. Further details on the formal requirements for submission can be found in the style sheet. Citation styles are available for the literature management programmes Citavi and Zotero.1

Authors conclude an author's agreement with the jfml, which grants the jfml a simple right of use for the first publication and long-term archiving of the article. Furthermore, authors assure the jfml that they do not infringe any rights of third parties, in particular image rights. The copyright remains with the authors. Please fill out, sign and send us the author's agreement.
